'If music and sweet poetry agree...' - Jacobean poetry in old and new settings
In this programme of lute songs, Clare Wilkinson, Michael Solomon Williams and Jacob Heringman explore the rich and varied poetry of Elizabethan and Jacobean England from the points of view of song composers of the seventeenth and twentieth centuries.
The programme will include poems by Sidney, Campion, Donne, and Shakespeare (among others), in early settings by Tessier, Danyel, Dowland, Campion, and Ferrabosco, and in much more recent settings by (among others) Wilkinson, Pope, and Warlock.
