An emphatic header from Lawrie Marsh and another brace from Callum Stead helped Hitchin Town beat Needham Market 3-0 to win through to the FA Cup second qualifying round.

Read on to find out which Canaries players impressed.

HITCHIN TOWN PLAYER RATINGS

Charlie Horlock: 7 - Slightly fortuitous midway through the first half when a scramble saw the ball thud the bar when the visitors should really have scored but looked solid throughout with effective distribution.

Jack Green: 7 - Never lets anyone down. Every team needs a Jack Green.

Layne Eadie: 7.5 - Solid and committed throughout a hard-fought match.

Ryan Smith: 7 - Lovely footwork and a silky technique from this creative talent which means he is calmness personified, even in tight spaces.

Lawrie Marsh: 7.5 - Great run from the former Biggleswade defender to get on the end of Dhillon's pinpoint cross.

Ben Walster: 8 - Captain, leader, future Canaries legend. Showed superb anticipation and timing, which allied with his uncompromising bravery, excellent positioning and an unrivalled aerial prowess saw him give another outstanding performance.

Rio Dasilva: 7.5 - Pacy wideman with so many tricks up his sleeve he could nutmeg a mermaid. Intelligent movement on and off the ball. An exciting presence who never let the visitors' backline settle. Deserved his warm ovation after Alex Marsh replaced him

Jhai Dhillon: 7.5 - Excellent cross for Marsh's headed opener to serve up his second assist in two matches. Unlucky with his first half shot which thudded the visitor's post but added a second assist in the match with his ball from Stead's header to put the tie to bed.

Callum Stead: 8 – Not as influential as he would have liked given his hot run of form coming into the match but what is impressive about the former Hitchin youth college, Luton Town academy and Welwyn Garden City alumnus is that he works as hard off the ball as he is dangerous on it. The sign of an excellent striker is to score when not playing as well as his talent allows and he fully deserved his two second half goals to make it four strikes in two games this season. A genuine talent.

Luke Brown: 7 - Son of former Canary Stuart Brown. Returned from a spell in the US to impress at Top Field. Gave his all for the cause as ever.

Josh Caldecott-Stevens: 7.5 - The former Boreham Wood youth joined from Kings Langley last term and has kicked on this term. Also worked hard off the ball in chasing down lost causes and generally harrying the opposition with energetic pressing.

Substitutes:

Alex Marsh on for Dasilva - 7

Marcus Goldbourne: 7 - Came on for Stead late on, denying the in-form striker the chance of a treble.
