Train users from Hitchin and across lines from north Herts into London are strongly advised to not to travel after damage to overhead electric wires between London and Finsbury Park resulted in all lines being blocked.

Trains are currently unable to run between London Kings Cross / London St Pancras International / Moorgate and Stevenage.

Trains will be subject to delays and cancellations. Some trains will start / terminate at different locations to normal. Journey times may be extended by up to 90 minutes with disruption expected until the end of service.

The problems came after Network Rail staff identified a 'de-wirement' in the Copenhagen Tunnels just outside Kings Cross. Due to this no services will be able to depart from London Kings Cross, London Moorgate or St Pancras towards Stevenage and Hitchin via Cambridge and Peterborough.

Thameslink

Horsham to Peterborough via Hitchin and north Herts will run between Horsham and London Bridge only at the moment. They do hope to have these services run between Stevenage and Peterborough, but this will not be for a few hours yet.

Brighton to Cambridge services will not run.

Great Northern

London Kings Cross to King's Lynn services will run between Cambridge and King's Lynn only where train crew and stock permits

London Kings Cross to Cambridge services will be reduced and subject to delays of up to 90 minutes and run between Stevenage and Cambridge only.

Moorgate to Welwyn Garden City services will not run

Moorgate to Stevenage services will run between Bowes Park and Stevenage only.

A statement from Great Northern / Thameslink said: "You are strongly advised not to travel, if you are already making your journey, you will need to use an alternative route, which can be found on our website.

"At present no services will be able to depart from London Kings or Moorgate and no services will be able to run South of Welwyn Garden City. Thameslink services may be subject to some delays between London Bridge and St Pancras.

"We are currently working on updating journey planners to show the latest information.

"If you are on a train which is not moving outside of a station we are working on getting moving. Please stay on the train and listen to any on-board announcements."
