Read Stevenage FC expert Owen Rodbard's regular column in Nub News as he reflects on Boro's disappointing defeat at the hands of Sutton.

................

Frustration was the key word after Saturdays disappointing loss.

The way we played, the desire to win the ball back and winning those second balls cost us against a very poor Sutton side.

Pair that with yet another awful refereeing performance (expected from the renowned Trevor Kettle at this point), and Boro left south London winless in five league games.

The game as a whole wasn't exactly a spectacle of football, the only real moment of quality was List's goal.

It was poor defending for the first Sutton goal and then the travesty of that red card for Vancooten really summed up the day for Boro.

From second viewing it was probably a penalty, but for a red card to be given there is criminal.

How could he have been last man when Luther is sat on the line behind him. Kettle let the crowd and the Sutton team influence him into making that decision, and once again highlighted the awful standard of officiating in the lower leagues.

It's hard to pinpoint what's going wrong at the moment.

Late equalisers against Wycombe to deny us a League Cup game against Manchester City at the Etihad and the controversy of Swindon's late penalty have marred what had been a good start to this season.

Another frustration with the fans was players and management walking off and not clapping the fans. I understand the anger but appreciation goes a long way with the fans.

Stevenage return home to face a tough test against table topping Forest Green, and will want to bounce back and climb up the table.
