July in Hitchin is set to end with a scorching day on Friday - as a summer 'mini-heatwave' arrives in time for the weekend.

Temperatures are set to hit 34C, in contrast to the unsettled weather and spells of heavy rain which have been the case for most of the month.

The Met Office's outlook for Hitchin: "Dry, sunny and hot on Friday, with temperatures considerably higher than it has been through much of July."

Tomorrow has already been dubbed 'Furnace Friday' by some with the sun set to blast temperatures well above the average for this time of year.

Friday's expected maximum in Hitchin will hit 34C before dropping to 25C on Saturday and 21C on Sunday, with sun forecast for both days of the weekend.
