We all know Hitchin Sainsbury's is off Bancroft these days - but who recalls when it was situated elsewhere?

The correct address of the Sainsbury's supermarket in our town is Whinbsh Road, but do you remember when the store was on Brand Street?

This evocative photograph shows the store in 1982. It is taken from North Herts Museum's brilliant archive.

Ironically our town's museum is now only a few doors up from the Sainsbury's in the original picture, with the 1982 Sainsbury's site currently home to B&M.

The museum is a real jewel in Hitchin's crown and Nub News emphatically encourages as many people as possible to visit, now that they have reopened after lockdowns.

PS If you like old photos then you will have to take in their exhibition called Frozen In Time – Early Photographs of North Herts, which will run until 27 June.

The must-see exhibition will feature a series of 48 photographs of North Herts in Victorian and Edwardian times from the museum's collections.

The fascinating images of towns and villages in the district offer a snapshot into the daily lives of people who lived and worked there during those eras.
