Hitchin is set to be hotter than Barcelona this week!

After a summer of disappointing weather, temperatures are set to soar in our area.

As we predicted back in August, here, Hitchin is set to bask in a late summer heatwave thanks to a 'hot air blob' - with our town and surrounding areas expecting wonderful sunshine due to a 700-mile wide Atlantic front.

Hitchin is set to enjoy unseasonal hot weather, with the mercury rising to 28C on Monday afternoon - supplemented by warm air also sweeping in from the Mediterranean after a dull and cool August.

However, temperatures will continue to soar with our town set to post highs of 29C on Tuesday - hotter than Barcelona.

The Met Office said: "It does look like hot temperatures will start to arrive in the south-east after a disappointing end to the summer.

"August had been particularly grey and dull with cooler temperatures, however it looks like there will be a little blast of summer weather.

"The week will start with temperatures reaching 27C on Monday. It's likely to be dry and sunny for most but this will only be the beginning.

"Tuesday is likely to be the hottest day, with temperatures probably reaching highs of 28C or even higher before dropping slightly on Wednesday."
