Iconic Hitchin church appears on hit show Married at First Sight: UK
An iconic Hitchin landmark has appeared on a hit TV show this week.
Our town's St Mary's Church can date its history back to the 12th century and has seen everything from the Black Plague to Nazi bombs being dropped on our town.
But we can't recall it featuring in too many reality shows.
The renowned church made a brief appearance in the smash hit Married at First Sight: UK on Thursday evening - prompting a reaction from the vicar.
The bold social experiment is being broadcast on E4 where single people, matched by experts, marry total strangers, who they meet for the very first time on their wedding day.
Tayah Victoria
Hertfordshire estate agent Tayah Victoria, 25, married electrician Adam, 26, on the popular show.
Tayah tied the knot with electrician Adam on the series, as the couple instantly hit it off.
During Thursday's episode, Tayah was filmed walking past St Mary's Church - spotted by eagle-eyed vicar Chris Bunce.
The Vicar of St Mary's, as well as team rector of Hitchin with St Paul's Walden and Preston tweeted: "I'm delighted that @stmaryshitchin_ has made it into Married at First Sight UK, although not for the wedding…!"
However, on Thursday's show, mother-of-the-bride Rachel, from Welwyn Garden City, admitted she was initially 'horrified' at her daughter's appearance on the show.
The stars of the E4 show married their partners weeks ago, before departing on honeymoons, taking part in commitment ceremonies and moving in with one another.
On Thursday's episode, Adam was invited into Tayah's home, but mum was quick to voice fears regarding her daughter's involvement in the experiment.
After the couple told Rachel they were madly in love and wished to live together, she said: "You don't really know each other.
"Is that something that you both really feel you want?
"I think it's important you have a bit of time apart to sit back and reflect and sort your lives out."
Married at Fight Sight: UK ends next week.
The show has smashed E4 viewing figures with shows being watched by more than one million people per episode.
