Staff at the intensive care unit of Stevenage's Lister Hospital have been praised for their dedication on the frontline in the fight against Covid.

The NHS across England and locally has struggled to cope with the surge in demand during the second wave of Covid.

With daily infections hitting record levels and the number of people admitted to hospital with severe health problems caused by coronavirus seeing huge spikes the NHS has been tested like never before.

However, staff at the Lister Hospital's Intensive Care Unit have hailed the professionalism of front line workers in dealing with the pandemic.

"Overwhelmed by the teamwork and camaraderie we are experiencing during this second wave,"a tweet by the official account for the intensive care department at the Lister (@ListerICU) said.

It continued: "Surgeons coming to help out during their on calls and even when they're not on call, trainees stepping up to the plate and nurses and support staff truly making monumental efforts. Thank you!"
