A Hitchin teenager has written and realised a new single about the challenges of living through lockdown.

'Locked Away' by Rowan Scourfield, 15, is a follow-up to his debut album, 'The Beginning of the End', containing 10 songs he penned and is an upbeat anthem for the difficult times we are living through.

While talking of the challenges it also strikes an optimistic note, keeping positive and getting through these difficult times.

Speaking to Nub News, Rowan said: "I am excited to be releasing my new single Locked Away and I can't wait for people to hear it. I wrote the song during lockdown about being shut away from friends and family.

"I have also put together a music video for the song which I will be releasing on Friday, January 22, on my YouTube channel."

2020 as a whole was a successful year for Rowan musically, releasing his first album, promoting it through online gigs and festivals and writing new material for future release.

He added: "Since I released my album 'The Beginning of the End' last June I haven't really been able to do live gigs due to the Covid pandemic.

"However I have done some online gigs through Instagram and Facebook Live which has helped me share and promote my music to a wider audience across the UK and overseas.

"In December I took part in the Music for Youth online festival "The Future Is Now" and had a 1-2-1 zoom mentoring session with Love Ssega who used to be in Clean Bandit. Love Ssega gave me lots of useful tips about the music industry."

Priory School pupil Rowan is a talented young singer songwriter and has already been writing songs for five years . He is also a multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, drums and bass.

Rowan's 2020 album racked up 3,000 streams on Spotify alone and was featured on BBC Look East, BBC Introducing Live and the online festival "The Future Is Now".

A track from the album was included on Aldora Britain Records compilation album "Symphonies For A Modern Society".
