Stevenage FC are set to welcome back fans to the Lamex before Christmas, according to the latest government guidelines.

A maximum of 4,000 fans are set to be allowed back at Broadhall Way when the national lockdown in England ends on 2 December.

In a bid to 'simplify' coronavirus regulations, the government will introduce a 'Local Covid Alert Level' system across England - intended to act as a traffic light system.

Under the system there will be three tiers - medium, high and very high.

With north Herts classed as the medium tier, the League Two side will be allowed to welcome fans back to games.

In a digital statement to the House of Commons on Monday afternoon, PM Boris Johnson announced outdoor events in the lowest-risk areas - which Hertfordshire falls under - will see the return of crowds.

Up to 2,000 fans will be allowed in tier two areas but zero in tier three.

The measures are set to be part of the new Covid restrictions in England.

Elite sport has continued behind closed doors during England's four-week lockdown, but grassroots and amateur sport has been halted since 5 November.
