Alistair Strathern has won a resounding majority as Labour claimed Hitchin from the Conservatives.

Mr Strathern took 42.8 per cent of the votes, some 7,000 votes more than outgoing MP Bim Afolami.

That difference was almost the total number of votes taken by Reform's Charles Bunker who came third.

The Hitchin seat has replaced Hitchin & Herpenden. And the results mean this is the first time since 1974 the town has not had a Conservative MP.

Hitchin results in full:

  • Alistair Strathern (Labour) - 22,067
  • Bim Afolami (Conservative) - 14,958
  • Charles Bunker (Reform) - 6,760
  • Chris Lucas (Lib Dem) - 4,913
  • Will Lavin (Green) - 2,631
  • Sid Cordle (Christian Peoples Alliance) - 181
