Hitchin businesses join forces to give young musicians a pathway into the music industry

A group of independent Hitchin businesses have come together to create a new opportunity for grassroots musicians, giving young artists the chance to progress from their first live performance to a professional recording and a record shop release.

Taking place on 8th and 9th August at Molly Malone's, Into Tomorrow x Harry Starr: The Takeover isn't a battle of the bands. It's a community project designed to support emerging artists and create genuine opportunities.

Bands will perform live in front of audiences and an industry panel, with one act earning a four-hour professional recording session at The Practice Roomz. Their finished release will then be supported by JP's Record Shop, while the entire journey will be documented by Fade to Grey Photography.

The project has brought together local businesses with one shared aim: investing in the next generation of musicians.

"There are so many talented young artists around Hitchin, but getting that first break can be incredibly difficult," said organiser Darryl O'Hara from Molly Malone's.

"We wanted to build something that gives them more than just another gig. This is about creating a pathway—from stage, to studio, to record shop—with local businesses backing local talent every step of the way."

The event is free to attend and open to all ages, reflecting a commitment to creating safe, welcoming spaces where young people can perform, discover live music and become part of Hitchin's creative community.

Organisers hope the project will continue to grow through partnerships with other local businesses, creating even more opportunities for musicians in the years ahead.
