A renowned fixture in the Hitchin food scene is on the market.

A popular cafe, sandwich bar and coffee lounge in the heart of our town centre has been put up for sale.

Chilli B's can be found in a beautifully restored Victorian building in Bucklersbury dating back to 1857, but for how much longer, after the company has been put up for sale with offers invited.

Bill and Sharon took over the reins of Greens Food in 2004 after giving up careers in the corporate world. As their website says, "with a passion for food and a keen eye for customer service they have built up a loyal customer base." They also explain that their customers feel like friends and most are known by name or at least what their favourite food is.

The site at 32 Bucklersbury prepares food fresh to order, with a unique menu that caters for the fussiest eater. They add: "Breakfast or Lunch. On The Run or relax in The Lounge, we've got it covered," while their famous griddles "set them apart from the humdrum sandwich."

The popular Chill B's also say that theirs is "very much a family business and the staff that work here are equally enthusiastic that each and every customer receives the best service and tastiest food."

For Sale

According to the listing on RightBiz, turnover is in excess of £320,000 with an EBITDA [Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation] of £118,000, operating from ideally located leasehold premises.

The site also says that Chilli B's offers a unique selection of breakfast, lunch, brunch, hot and cold drinks, cakes and baked goods and benefits from an excellent local reputation, with a high rate of return custom.

Another selling point from many is that the site has dedicated and experienced staff in place, with scope to extend opening hours and hire additional, skilled employees.

Chilli B's has also achieved a Very Good Food Hygiene Rating and is being offered for sale "to facilitate other, unrelated business interests."

Did you know:

The name changed to Chilli Banana in 2006 after their son Luke was called Chilli Banana on holiday many years before.

The decision to shorten the name to Chilli B was taken after the expansion of The Lounge, as this is what the shop is fondly known as by loyal regulars.
