A Winning Visit: Hitchin Football Club Joins the Milford Lodge Gents Club
By Eliana Ferraris 19th Mar 2026
There was a real buzz at Milford Lodge this week as residents welcomed some very special guests — the manager Michael Jones and players Blue Joy & Josh Mollinson of Hitchin Football Club, who dropped in to spend the morning with our Gents Club.
The visit brought together two groups who share a love of sport, camaraderie, and good conversation. From the moment the team walked through the door, the room lit up with smiles, handshakes, and plenty of football banter.
🟡 A Warm Welcome for Local Heroes
Residents were eager to hear stories from the pitch, and the players didn't disappoint. They chatted about memorable matches, training routines, and what it's like to represent Hitchin on and off the field. The manager spoke passionately about the club's connection to the community — a theme that resonated deeply with our gentlemen.
For many residents, football has been a lifelong passion, and the chance to talk tactics and reminisce about favourite teams and matches sparked lively conversation. One resident proudly shared memories of watching Hitchin Town play decades ago, while another joked that he could still teach the lads a thing or two about defending.
🤝 Building Community Through Sport
What made the afternoon truly special was the genuine warmth between the visitors and our residents. The players took time to sit with each gentleman, listen to their stories, and share their own experiences as young athletes. It was a reminder of how sport can bridge generations, creating moments of connection that feel effortless and joyful.
Activity Organiser Devina Kutowaroo said - "The Gents Club meets regularly to enjoy conversation, games, and shared interests — and this visit added an extra layer of excitement. Laughter filled the lounge, and the atmosphere had all the energy of a match day, minus the muddy boots."
📸 A Day to Remember
Before heading off, the team posed for photos, signed a few programmes, and promised to stay in touch. Several residents said it was one of the most enjoyable afternoons they'd had in a long time.
Care Home Manager Lindsey Christoforou said "Milford Lodge extends a heartfelt thank‑you to Hitchin Football Club for taking the time to visit. Their kindness, enthusiasm, and community spirit made a lasting impression — and we'll be cheering them on even louder this season."
