Alistair Strathern MP visits retirement community in Hitchin

Member of Parliament for Hitchin, Alistair Strathern, visited the team and homeowners at McCarthy Stone's retirement community, Park House, in Hitchin last week.
The Labour MP joined the Park House team for a development tour and to talk about the value of specialist housing for older people. Located on Old Park Road, Park House provides 56 low-maintenance apartments for over 70s, designed to support older people and help them to live later life to the fullest. The development includes shared areas, an on-site bistro and a dedicated care and support team that is on-site 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Its location also provides excellent access to local shops and amenities.
Commenting on the visit, Alistair Strathern MP said: "It was a real pleasure to visit Park House and have an excellent discussion with the homeowners about various topics, including local speed restriction measures in Hitchin. We also spoke about the important role that retirement communities like these play in keeping older people happier and healthier."
The Estate Manager, Leanne Jessett, manages Park House and supports the residents. Leanne leads a team of approx. 15 colleagues at Park House, including the development's care and support staff and a dedicated chef.
Leanne added: "It was great to have Alistair visit Park House and to hear from our lovely homeowners. The whole Park House team is passionate about working with older people to create vibrant communities and being able to tell our local MP about these benefits was a privilege."
The UK is experiencing a housing crisis, where there are not enough suitable homes to support the ageing population. McCarthy Stone is helping to meet this challenge and is calling on the Government to implement the recommendations of the Older People's Housing Taskforce report, Our Future Homes, published in November 2024.
Alistair added: "The housing issues in the UK mean many older people can't always access the support and care they need. My visit highlighted the value of developments like Park House to the people that live there, where they are part of a vibrant community and can live independently while still having access to the support they need."
