Officers are appealing for information following a collision involving a car and an electric pedal cycle in Hitchin.

The incident occurred on Willian Road at around 2pm on Monday 13th October.

It is reported that the blue modified electric pedal cycle had been travelled along Purwell Lane towards the junction with Willian Road, where it collided with a white BMW X6.

The cyclist, a 46-year-old man from Hitchin, suffered life threatening injuries and was taken by air ambulance to hospital.

Due to the cyclist having interaction with the British Transport Police (BTP), who were driving a marked white Peugeot 3008, prior to the collision, the British Transport Police has referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). This is as per standard protocol.

Inspector Craig Wheeler from the BCH Road Policing Unit said, "I am appealing to any people who saw the bike, the white BMW or the marked police vehicle in the Purwell Lane and Willian Road area of Hitchin, either before or at the time of the collision to contact me.

"I am particularly interested in hearing from you if you have any CCTV or dash cam footage of the collision, please upload this at: herts.police.uk/dashcamupload."

Inspector Wheeler can be contacted via emailing [email protected].

You can also report information online at herts.police.uk/report, speak to an operator in Force Communications Room via the online web chat at herts.police.uk/contact or call the non-emergency number 101, quoting Op Ringhall.
