Armed police in 'military style' outfits were called onto the streets of Hitchin last week it has emerged.

Nub News understands that at least three armed response units, a dog unit and an unmarked unit ready to deploy stinger traps were in place to deal with a 'serious' incident.

An eyewitness told Nub News: "There were a lot of heavily armed coppers in military style 'garb'."

A police helicopter also circled for more than 40 minutes during the operation.

Herts Police confirmed to Nub News: "Police were called at 5.31pm on Thursday (August 25) to a report of a domestic incident in Hitchin.

"Due to the nature of the report, armed officers were deployed in the effort to trace a suspect. There was not thought to be any wider threat to the public."
