Boris Johnson's four-step plan to unlock Hitchin and north Herts from lockdown - what we know so far

By Layth Yousif 22nd Feb 2021

People up and down the country including Hitchin and north Herts are patiently waiting to hear Prime Minister Boris Johnson explain how lockdown will be lifted.

Mr Johnson is expected to speak in the House of Commons at 330pm.

He will then hold a press conference at 7pm.

Here's what we know so far:

The government's plan consists of four steps.

The first step will happen in two parts:

First on Monday, March 8, when schools will reopen and two people will be able to meet outdoors to socialise.

Then from Monday, March 29 people can meet outside in groups of six, or two households, and outdoor sports can resume.

Further lifting of restrictions are set to include:

Outdoor sports, including football, golf and tennis, will be allowed to resume from March 29 as well

Organised adult and children's sport, such as grassroots football, will also return

Progress to further steps depends on conditions around vaccination, infections, hospitalisations, deaths and new variants.
