Checking in with Hitchin’s County Councillors

Cllr Chris Lucas was elected to represent Hitchin South on Hertfordshire County Council for the Liberal Democrats.
He told Hitchin Nub News that he was "thrilled to be able to serve my community in this new role and I am humbled by the faith placed in me by the people of Hitchin South. I am grateful to 'Mr Hitchin', Cllr Keith Hoskins, who previously held the seat and will continue to work alongside him at NHDC".
"Our Liberal Democrat group of 31 has now overtaken the Conservatives after 26 years of their rule at HCC and we hope to form a joint administration soon. Across the country, local Liberal Democrat champions like myself will be getting to work, delivering for local communities and championing our liberal values."
Cllr Ian Albert (Labour) was "proud" to have been re-elected to represent the residents of Hitchin North on Hertfordshire County Council.
He told Hitchin Nub News that he "will continue to work hard for the town of Hitchin on the issues that matter to everyone, whoever they voted for on Thursday, such as social care, education, environment, transport and highways".
"I will focus, alongside Alistair Strathern MP, on the work we have started to reduce lorries and scrap metal fires in our town, improve our infrastructure to prevent future floods, and extending road safety schemes including 20mph zones".
"Across Hertfordshire, we saw the election of Councillors from Reform UK. But in North Herts I was delighted that we were able to fight off the Reform challenge. However, overall the Conservatives lost control of Hertfordshire for the first time in 25 years. No party has a majority of seats".
"Labour Councillors now want to see a more progressive leadership of the County replace them and will discuss how this can best be achieved in the coming days".
Hitchin Rural's successful Conservative Councillor, David Barnard, has been approached for comment.
