Community Call-Out: Volunteers Needed to Help Launch Men’s Mental Health Pool Competition in Hitchin
By Katie Wilson 22nd Jan 2026
A new community project is being developed in Hitchin with the aim of raising awareness around men's mental health, and local residents are being invited to help shape it from the ground up.
Katie Wilson, a Hitchin resident and community organiser, is planning a men's mental health pool competition designed to bring people together in a relaxed, social setting. The idea is to create a space where men can connect, talk, and support one another — all while enjoying a friendly game of pool.
The event is currently in its early planning stages, with the date and venue still to be confirmed. However, the project has already received positive backing from Hertfordshire Mind, who have expressed their support and offered to help promote the event once details are finalised.
Katie explained that the inspiration came from seeing how many men struggle quietly with their mental health. "Sometimes the simplest environments — a game, a chat, a shared activity — can make the biggest difference," she said. "I'm now looking for people who'd like to help get the idea off the ground."
Volunteers are needed to assist with planning, logistics, promotion, and shaping the event format. No previous experience is required — just enthusiasm and a willingness to support a meaningful cause.
Anyone interested in helping to organise the event, or who would like to find out more, is encouraged to get in touch.
