A big 10-days for new shop and refurbished pub

Back in October 2023 a number of residents opposed the plan to build a new supermarket in the carpark of the Anchor pub.

One resident called it " unfeasible and ridiculous" but last week the shop opening for the first time and Hitchin Nub News went along to check it out.

The first impression - especially in this hot weather - is how amazingly cold the air conditioning is inside the newly opened shop.

The shop has space for 35 cars to park including a couple of EV charging points, it also has three bike racks.

There are four self-check out counters and a Argos collection point (which apparently also supports Tu and Habitat orders)

The shop is open 7am to 11pm every day of the week but the real test that many concerned residents will be keeping an eye on is the impact on the traffic.

Meanwhile the refurbished Anchor Pub will open its doors this Thursday coming (19th June)
