Council reports “great progress” towards Hitchin River Walk
Earlier this month Cllr Ian Albert updated attendees at the Hitchin Forum as to the latest on the long awaited and much anticipated "Hitchin River Walk".
Cllr Albert explained that the relatively new Labour administration is "really keen on this".
"We're making great progress with the Riverside Walk project" Cllr Thomas said.
"After carrying out a topographical survey, our engineers are now putting together an outline proposal for the route. Early plans suggest the walk will include a new footbridge over the River Hiz near Biggin Lane car park".
"To make sure the route is safe and enjoyable for everyone, it will be for pedestrians only - there isn't enough space near Jill Grey Place for cyclists as well".
"We're expecting to get the engineers' draft proposal soon, and we'll share it more widely when it's ready".
"The final route will also need to be checked by the legal team, highways agency, and environment agency before it's signed off".
"We've been keeping local residents in the loop as we move forward. The residents at Jill Grey Place have already been updated, and we'll also be reaching out to those at Bridge Court once we have more details to share".
"In the meantime, we've spotted that the paving near Jill Grey Place isn't in great condition and could be a trip hazard, so Heras fencing will go up to keep the area safe".
"We know from the recent Churchgate consultation that residents really value the Hiz, so we can't wait to create a lovely new riverside walk for everyone to enjoy. We'll keep you posted as things progress!"
