HERTFORDSHIRE County Council has warning residents of the risk of further localised flooding as weather forecasts for Sunday evening and Monday morning predict more rain to fall across the county.

In particular, areas of Hitchin are under threat.

Since Friday 22 September, 103 properties across the county have experienced flooding while 451 reports of flooded roads, footpaths and subways have been made.

After the River Purwell burst its banks on Friday morning, the county council worked closely with officers from North Hertfordshire District Council to offer support to those affected and stood up a respite centre for residents.

In addition, Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service worked from the early hours of the morning to tackle the rising water levels, pumping over 1.5 million litres of water away from properties over the course of the day.

Sandbags were put out for residents.

In preparation for further rainfall, the county council's Highways contractor Ringway sourced over 60 tonnes of sand and with the assistance of crews from Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service, sandbags were distributed to homes in and around the site of flooding in Hitchin on Friday.
