Milford Lodge Care Home in Hitchin is buzzing with colour, creativity, and seaside excitement as residents and the Engagement Team prepare for this year's Summer Party on 25th July. With the theme "At The Seaside", the home is transforming into a joyful coastal escape — complete with handmade decorations, imaginative props, and staff dressing up as beloved characters from The Little Mermaid.

🎨 Art, Dementia Care & Meaningful Engagement

Across B&M Care, recent research has highlighted the powerful benefits of art and creative expression for people living with dementia — from boosting confidence and communication to sparking memories and emotional wellbeing. Inspired by these findings, the Engagement Team at Milford Lodge invited residents to take the lead in designing and crafting their own seaside‑themed props.

From painted beach huts and colourful bunting to paper starfish, shells, and cheerful ice‑cream signs, residents have embraced the project with enthusiasm. The activity has filled lounges with laughter, conversation, and a shared sense of achievement.

Deputy Manager Abbie Mason said,

"It's been wonderful watching residents create something that will be part of a big celebration. Art gives people freedom — and seeing their ideas come to life has been magical."
