Stevenage have been drawn to face the U21 side from Premier League outfit Southampton in the EFL Trophy.

Boro will play the youngsters from the south coast top flight team in the group stages of the competition between lower league sides and academy teams from the biggest clubs in the land.

The last time Boro faced a Southampton side they lost 4-1 in the League Cup first round on August 28, 2012.

Jason Puncheon scored a 30-yard volley as Southampton beat the Lamex outfit eight years ago this month.

On a busy day for newly instated League Two side Boro, they were earlier drawn against Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup first round.
