FIRST GLIMPSE: Cafe 77 - A brilliant haven for 'Burger Purists' is set to open in Hitchin this week

Thursday marks the grand opening of Hitchin's newest eatery located on Bancroft and specialising in no nonsense burgers.

The new venture, Cafe 77, has been set up by husband and wife duo Rowan and Hannah Patel in a smartly converted character unit on busy Bancroft, in the heart of our town centre.

Rowan's story began more than a decade ago when he purchased a small burger trailer located in a pub carpark in the nearby village of Codicote.

From a humble beginning, burgers became something of an obsession.

The trailer became a fixed shipping container, with a mobile events van added shortly after, culminating with burgers on their wedding day.

Rowan, a self-proclaimed 'Burger Purist', who'll only reluctantly add greenery to your burger, told Hitchin Nub News: "Our focus as a team has always been on simplicity and sourcing of products.

"We work with local butchers and local farms with the idea being that the products don't travel very far.

"We're lucky to have such a 'burger loving culture' within Hitchin, for us it's such a massive opportunity", something many readers will be certain to agree.

"We look forward to adding to the great selection of food in the town and providing consistent quality so customers really know what they're getting."

Acting as a community hub during the depths of the various Covid lockdowns, Cafe 77 has moved from strength to strength ahead of its eagerly-awaited bow.

This latest addition to the renowned Hitchin food scene marks the homecoming of a local family finally able to open a restaurant in their own town.

When asked their aspirations for the future Hannah replied simply: "To get to the end of next week, to make it through the day" a sentiment we're sure is shared by many small business owners in and around Hitchin as our town continues to bounce back after lockdown.

.............

Cafe77's grand opening is set for this Thursday [October, 7] at 12 noon with 20 per cent discount offered throughout the first day.

The cafe will be open initially on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays with an increased service being offered at a later date and the addition of an app-based delivery service coming in the future.
