HITCHIN: Pizza Express revamp - gallery

The humble pizza dates back to the 18th century in southern Italy, quite by chance.

The modest but hugely popular dish originally came to life, when an unknown chef in Naples added tomato sauce to focaccia bread.

It soon became a tasty staple for peasant which soon spread all over the world.

However, we can date the emergence of pizza in Hitchin to the arrival of Pizza Express to our town in the 1990s.

Since then, generations of Hitchin families have enjoyed visits to the site on the corner of Sun Street and Market Place.

And while it may be a chain restaurant, it still offers an air of individuality, allied with the comforting fact that staples such as dough balls and America Hot pizzas will be as modestly priced as they are tasty.

So, you'll be pleased to note that the store in the heart of our town has enjoyed a revamp recently.

Pizza Express told Hitchin Nub News punters will also get free dough balls when they sign up to their Pizza Express Club - so why not pop in, say hi to the hard-working local team and get rewarded!
