Sky News have revealed that Hitchin's former MP, Bim Afolami, is to return to HSBC - the bank he worked for before he embarked on a career in politics - in a boardroom role.

Bim Afolami served as the Conservative MP for Hitchin and Harpenden from 8 June 2017 until 30 May 2024, totalling nearly seven years in office.

Following the abolition of his constituency in 2024, he contested the new Hitchin seat in the 4 July 2024 general election but was unsuccessful polling 14,958 votes compared to the winner, Alistair Strathern's 23,067.

Although Mr Afolami has been a lot quieter on social media since losing his seat he has commenting on the economy and in November tweeted that "in Britain we need to stop the media tearing down successful people - it is harming the country".
