Gatwards of Hitchin marks 265 years with special anniversary exhibition

Hitchin's historic jewellers, Gatwards of Hitchin, is celebrating a remarkable milestone this week – 265 years of trading in the town.
Founded in 1760, Gatwards is the UK's oldest family-run jeweller still operating from its original premises, and this anniversary is being marked with a special in-store exhibition.
Running throughout the week, the exhibition offers visitors the chance to step back in time and explore the jeweller's long history. Displays include timepieces made by the early Gatwards, family jewellery handed down through generations, and a collection of photographs and memorabilia spanning more than two and a half centuries.
To add to the celebrations, an exclusive client evening will be held on Thursday in partnership with Lanson Champagne – another heritage brand that also dates back to 1760. Guests will enjoy a night of elegance and tradition, toasting two companies that share the same founding year.
Charlotte McCrossin, the 8th generation family member and Managing Director of Gatwards, told Hitchin Nub News:
"Reaching 265 years is an incredible milestone for Gatwards. This anniversary is not just about celebrating our past, but also looking forward to the future with the same values of quality, trust, and family tradition that have guided us since 1760. We are delighted to welcome our clients and the community to share in this very special moment with us and share their personal stories of Gatwards."
The exhibition is open in-store all week, and the team at Gatwards is inviting the whole community to join them in celebrating Hitchin's rich heritage.
