Get ready for the Hitchin “Beer Hunter”
Ahead of third ever Beerhunter event Hitchin Nub News caught up with Burnt Hare's Jake Amos to learn more about what it's all about.
HNN - What is the Beerhunter?
JA – "It's a fun event that involves running to pubs!"
"It starts at the Half Moon in Hitchin, where the first stage starts, known as the sprint stage, as it's relatively flat apart from going over the Morehens footbridge, and along the road to the Bird in Hand in Gosmore. As each runner arrives, we give them a beer mat with a number on to show what place they can for that stage".
"After the runners have purchased a cheeky beverage (or not as you don't have to drink!), we commence stage two, known as the King/Queen of the mountain stage, a glorious run uphill to the Red Lion in Preston, where again, you get your numbered beer mat, and another beverage if you choose to do so".
"Finally, it's the Enduro stage, the longest of the stages, that takes you through the beauty that is the north Herts countryside, where you finally head back to race HQ back at the Half Moon. We then tally up who came where and then dish out the prizes!"
HNN - How many years has it been going and what have been the highlights from previous years?
JA - "This will be its third year in running. The biggest highlights have been watching to tactical plays that the runners do! It's not always about going hard at it all the time and to see people just having fun in an event where it doesn't really matter that much about where you finish, as long as you finish!"
HNN - How many participants will be taking part?
JA – "We typically get somewhere between 40-50 as it's a niche event. If pubs aren't your thing, then it won't appeal, but if you like a jog and running with a great bunch of likeminded people who just want to enjoy themselves then this is your bag!"
HNN - What kind of runner is the event for?
JA – "It's literally open to anyone who can jog and likes to go to the pub!"
"If you're unsure then get in contact and we can give you more details about the event. It's great fun and not to be taken seriously!"
