Hertfordshire's countryside was buzzing on Saturday 27 September as over 350 walkers took part in the Great Big Walk for Herts, raising an incredible £120,000 for children and young people's charities across the county. Walkers enjoyed perfect weather, adding to the fantastic atmosphere throughout the day.

Organised by local charity Helping Herts, participants completed 12 unique 13-mile loops, covering a combined 156 miles — almost the length of the entire Hertfordshire Way footpath. Walkers ranged in age from 11 to 83, from local residents and community groups to corporate teams. The loops took approximately five hours to complete, with everyone enjoying the stunning countryside along the way.

Businesses that took part in the walk included BearingNet, Lupa Foods (part of Geia Group), NFU Mutual St Albans and Harpenden, LemonadeHR, and Brocket Hall joined the effort, alongside Autotrader and Air Energy, with support from volunteers at Friends of the Hertfordshire Way who helped ensure all the walkers stayed on track.

Funds raised will support Helping Herts 12 charity partners* make a real difference to children and young people in Hertfordshire. These organisations provide essential support for young carers, children with disabilities, families facing hardship, and young people experiencing homelessness.

Jim Tatchell, co-founder of Helping Herts, said:

"This year's walk was our biggest yet, and it was inspiring to see so many people come together for such an important cause. Raising over £120,000 will make a real difference to children and young people across Hertfordshire."

Gordon Morrison, founder of Helping Herts, added:

"The Great Big Walk for Herts shows the best of our county — generosity, community spirit, and determination to create brighter futures. We're grateful to everyone who walked, donated, or supported behind the scenes."

With funds now totalling over £120,000 (including Gift Aid and match-funding), the event has once again proved itself as a highlight in Helping Herts fundraising calendar.
