This Saturday (October 26th) there's not one but TWO sold out Kids Halloween Discos at Hitchin Town Hall. Hitchin's finest selection of little witches, warlocks, ghosts and ghouls will be getting stuck into some serious Halloween fun.
For smaller gremlins (children) there is also the "Halloween Spooky Baby Ball" being hosted by the British Schools Museum on Sunday (27th) which promises "a treasure hunt, a snack break, special craft activities" and more.
Also, in town this Saturday is the Halloween Market at Biggin Lane. Beyond bagging yourself a bargain there is planned apple bobbin, a tombolo, fancy dress competitions, face painting and the ominously named "Halloween Hunt".
On Friday night (25th) there is the St Johns Youth Club Halloween Party which is hoping to be "spooktacular" and is offering children between the ages of 5-12 a host of activities including tattoos (temporary ones)
Braver Hitchinites may be tempted by "A Nightmare at The Priory" (up to October 31st) the "brand new, unique and fully immersive Halloween horror event" being hosted at the Hitchin events venue (see a full review of the experience in The Comet)
Hitchin Lavender is putting on a "Pumpkins Patch" with tearoom, farm shop, and play area all free to visit.
Meanwhile Hertfordshire Constabulary are carrying out extra patrols over the upcoming Halloween and Bonfire Night period to provide what they describe as "a reassuring presence for residents and deter anti-social behaviour".
Hertfordshire Constabulary is offering the following advice to anyone planning to go out over this period:
· Children should never go trick or treating alone and always take an adult with them.
· Don't knock on the doors of strangers, unless there are signs that callers are welcome, such as Halloween decorations and police 'Trick or Treaters Welcome' posters in the window.
· Keep your Halloween 'tricks' safe – damaging property, hurting people, using threatening behaviour or abusive language are all crimes.
Beyond helping to keep towns like Hitchin safe, Hertfordshire Constabulary are also running a Halloween quiz competition for children, who can win tickets to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour - The Making of Harry Potter in Leavesden. The competition will close at midnight on Wednesday, 6 November.
