Gordon Morrison, co-founder of Helping Herts, has received recognition for his tireless fundraising efforts at the High Sheriff Awards earlier this month.

Sally Burton DL, High Sheriff of Hertfordshire, presented Gordon with the personal award (pictured) at the ceremony which took place at County Hall, Hertford.

Gordon Morrison said: "I would like to pass on our thanks to the High Sheriff for recognising the work we do at Helping Herts. It means a lot to be acknowledged with such a highly revered award.

"I'm looking forward to continuing with my fundraising efforts this year for these charities which provide much needed support to children and families across Hertfordshire."

In his role as co-founder of Helping Herts, Gordon has raised over £440,000 for twelve children charities hospices and Citizen Advice across Hertfordshire since the Helping Herts campaign began in 2020.

This was raised via a programme of high-profile fundraising events including a 180-mile charity walk which Gordon took part in, as well as raffles, Helping Herts Week, a sustainable fashion show, direct donations and sponsorship.

This year the High Sheriff Awards focused on highlighting Hertfordshire organisations who support people dealing with some of the challenges exacerbated by the recent pandemic. In 2020, when the pandemic hit and charities were struggling,

Gordon used his expertise to set up Helping Herts with co-founder Jim Tatchell, to inspire action and help local charities maximise their fundraising potential.

Some of the charities had limited capacity to fundraise by themselves and being a part of the Helping Herts campaign provided them the opportunity to raise more awareness of the work they do, and ultimately enable them help their community significantly more.
