Hertfordshire film & TV boom opens doors for Hitchin businesses
By James Denselow 24th Mar 2026
Hitchin businesses are being encouraged to sign up for film and TV opportunities as Hertfordshire's screen sector continues to grow rapidly – bringing new money into the local economy.
An estimated £11.3 million was generated across Hertfordshire's film and TV sector between April 2024 and April 2025, and the figure is expected to nearly double in the current financial year, according to the Hertfordshire Film Office.
The county has long been a popular filming destination, but Hitchin is increasingly being recognised as an attractive location for productions, with local shops, venues and services benefiting when crews come to town.
Hertfordshire Film Office works to attract and support filming across the county by connecting productions with local businesses, helping to arrange filming permissions and logistics, shortlisting locations, and advising on sustainability, innovation and training opportunities for young people looking to enter the industry.
Now, more Hitchin businesses, venues and freelancers are being urged to sign up to the Film Office databases so productions can source what they need locally – from accommodation and catering to equipment hire, transport and specialist skills.
Hospitality, retail, creative services, construction and transport businesses can all register as suppliers. Freelancers can join the crew database, while property and venue owners can promote their spaces as potential filming locations, including homes, listed buildings, warehouses and other unique sites.
The aim is to ensure more filming spend stays within the county, supporting local businesses and creating new opportunities for residents.
Businesses and freelancers who want to get involved can find more information and register at the Hertfordshire Film Office website.
