Highover Farm: Nearly 500 local residents sign petition opposing plans for 700 home housing development on edge of Hitchin as vital vote looms
Nearly 500 people have signed a petition opposing plans for a housing development at the edge of Hitchin.
As Hitchin Nub News has previously reported, a blueprint for 11,600 new homes in North Hertfordshire had been agreed as part the Local Plan, in a bid to help our district meet its share of housing needs.
This includes builders being allowed to construct a new neighbourhood of approximately 700 homes at Highover Farm, Hitchin.
Next week North Herts Council will vote on whether to accept the current plan that was put forward by developers to start work on those 700 new homes on the Highover Farm site on the edge of Hitchin.
If it goes ahead this will be Hitchin's biggest new housing development in decades.
However, at the time of writing 482 local residents has put their names to a Change.org petition opposing, what they say is an "irresponsible plan for massive housing development at Hitchin's Highover Farm."
Those behind the petition which, includes videos arguing against the development, say: "There are a number of important issues with the current proposal that will negatively impact all residents across Hitchin and Letchworth, and it lacks basic but vital details."
Campaigners add: "Please watch the videos which outline these issues and then take this last chance to have your say before it's too late."
