An historic site in Hitchin has been awarded a £500 grant to help with refurbishment.

Following an increase in the amount of funding as part of Hertfordshire County Council's locality budget scheme, councillors have begun to allocate grants to worthwhile local causes throughout the county.

Councillor Judi Billing, Hitchin North has awarded a grant of £500 to The Dell at Woodside, to assist volunteers with the refurbishment of the outdoor theatre space.

The Dell has played host to crowds this summer after being re-opened after falling into disrepair for many decades.

Councillor Billing said: "I am delighted to support this marvellous project to re-open The Dell in all its 70-year-old glory.

"It will be a fantastic asset for the life of the Arts in Hitchin, so desperately needed after the tribulations of the past year and a half."
