This was another frustrating afternoon for Hitchin. They faced an in form Peterborough Sports team who were very comfortable on the ball and matched them all the way but their inability to score goals meant they suffered a defeat when they deserved a draw. Only 7 goals have been scored in 11 league games and this has meant good performances are not producing points. Chances are being created and good football is being played but the lack of end product means Hitchin have dropped into the relegation zone.

Hitchin have not been helped by a never ending list of injuries and illness. Ciaren Jones, Charlie Briggs, Taylor Rhiney, Cole Butler, Lloyd Asamoah and Teme Akubsoye were unavailable and Callum Kane had moved to Real Bedford. Rio Deall returned to the bench together with Dylan Stitt .Despite these selection problems Hitchin matched Peterborough in the first 20 minutes with end to end football. Peterborough had a few dangerous corners while Callum Nicolson had a shot saved after good work from Sean Duodu.

On 24 minutes Owen Brooks made an excellent run and cross but it eluded the Hitchin attackers. Then a Nicolson corner was somehow kept out by the Peterborough defence. Kav Cotter made a goal saving block before Diogo Freitas-Gouveia went on a mazy run but his shot was saved by Thomas Jackson. Peterborough had a shot hit the bar before Jamie Breen did well to set up Duodu but his shot was well saved. So it was goalless at half time and Hitchin had had been very competitive.

Nicolson came close after 53 minutes then Brooks delivered a dangerous cross that just eluded Duodu. But Peterborough took the lead after Ben Beresford brought the ball down before feeding Ben Hart who produced an excellent cross that was put in at the far post by Leon Lobjoit. Hitchin made four substitutions as they chased an equaliser but it proved elusive as goal scoring remains a major problem.

This was a much improved display after Leamington and a draw would have been a fair reflection of the game. The effort and commitment could not be faulted and manager Michael Jones saw plenty of positives in the performance. He thought we created the better chances and thought their keeper made some excellent saves. He said it proved we can compete with the best teams in the division but we must now show more consistency week to week and then we will start to pick up points.

There was another excellent attendance of 723 who witnessed an entertaining game.
