Hitchin are still seeking their first league win of the season but a 90^th minute penalty rescued a point after it looked as though Stourbridge were on course for victory. Taylor Rhiney re-signed for Hitchin after having played against them for Biggleswade Town in the FA Cup on Tuesday. It was Rhiney who slotted home the penalty after Daniel Stookoe was brought down in the penalty area by Dom Lewis. It was a soft penalty but Hitchin were grateful for the chance to grab a draw.

Injury wise Hitchin were without Temi Akinbusoye, Rio Deall and Simeon Olarerin while Luke Stokoe was still suspended. Dylan Stitt returned to the side while new signing Jamie Breen was on the bench. The early stages were even but overall Hitchin had the best of the game. Rhiney had an early goal ruled out for offside before Liam Brazier hit the bar for Stourbridge. On 22 minutes Rhiney set up Callum Nicolson but his shot was saved by Blade Earley. Stourbridge hit back with a shot from Will Etheridge that went over the bar and Tyler McGregor saved well from Jai Verma before Nicolson curled a shot just wide. The last chance of the half saw Ciaren Jones take a quick free kick that put Kyle Tearle through but the keeper was quick off his line. Hitchin suffered a blow when Callum Kane did not come out for the second half after being injured just before half time and he was replaced by Breen.

Hitchin made a poor start to the second half and conceded in the 49^th minute when Krystian Pearce headed home from a corner. Hitchin could not repeat their first half showing and Stourbridge got on top. Charlie Briggs, George Morrall and Dan Stokoe replaced Stitt, Cole Butler and Kye Tearle as Hitchin chased an equaliser. Stourbridge nearly scored again after 68 minutes when a corner was scrambled clear. Hitchin created their best chance when a good cross from Jamie Breen was headed wide by Toby Syme. Charlie Pavey shot just wide for Stourbridge but it seemed that they had the game under control until that late penalty.

Hitchin are now in 20^th position with 4 draws and 3 defeats from their 7 games. Manager Michael Jones was bemused by the second half performance as he had been really pleased with the first half display and asked for more of the same but a sloppy start was followed by what appeared to be lost energy and enthusiasm. But at least some resilience was shown which led to the late equaliser.
