Hitchin Chamber Orchestra is set to return to St Mary's Church next month for an evening of classical music exploring the contrast between darkness and light.

The orchestra will perform its Darkness to Light concert on Saturday 28 November, starting at 7.30pm, with a programme featuring works by some of classical music's best-known composers.

The concert will take audiences on a musical journey, from the dark and brooding intensity of Shostakovich's Chamber Symphony to the glorious splendour and lightness of Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings.

Music by Russian composer Anton Arensky will also feature in a programme promising plenty of contrast.

The evening will also mark an exciting new chapter for Hitchin Chamber Orchestra as it welcomes its new Music Director, Daniel Hogan, who will conduct the performance.

Announcing the concert, the orchestra said: "From the dark brooding of Shostakovich's Chamber Symphony to the glorious splendour and lightness of Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings, the concert will be full of contrast for all!

"We are looking forward to welcoming our new Music Director Daniel Hogan and hope that you can join us too!"

The performance will take place in the historic surroundings of St Mary's Church in the heart of Hitchin.
