A team from Hitchin Cricket Club has hit their fundraising goal and then some ahead of taking part in the Macmillan Darts Marathon — all to support people affected by cancer.

The team, playing under the spirited name "Hitchin Cricket Club – Cancer is a Tw@!", have joined the UK-wide charity darts challenge that calls on participants to play darts for up to 12 hours or score 100,000 points to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support

According to their official fundraising page, the Hitchin squad has raised £1,805.42, surpassing their original £1,500 target — about 120 % of their goal — thanks to generous donations from supporters old and new.

Club members and local supporters step up

Ten team members took part in the marathon including leader Rupert Hobson, Peter Bell, Danny Banks, Simon Bayston, Stuart Gwinnett and Russell Hann, with each raising funds through their own pages and encouraging friends and family to sponsor them.

Updates on the team's fundraising page show a steady stream of donations, with heartfelt messages from supporters — including contributions "in memory of loved ones" and cheers for the team's efforts.

Their event will take place on 1 February 2026 at Lucas Lane Sports Club, where darts throws, laughs and community spirit came together for a great cause.

Why it matters

It's not too late to support the Hitchin Cricket Club team or to start your own darts marathon for charity. You can donate directly via their fundraising page online — every contribution helps, whether big or small.

Good luck to the team — and good luck chasing more bullseyes for a brilliant cause! 🎯
