Hitchin Dementia Bench

For a while now, as a volunteer for the organisation; crossroads caring for life, a project is taking shape—one that will serve as a permanent reminder of the lives touched by dementia and that these people matter. The planned dementia-awareness bench, designed as a space for reflection and connection, is on the verge of reality. Our target is £1,200 and we have just £ 300 left to raise, to make this dream a reality.
This initiative is more than just a bench in a park; it is a symbol of remembrance, understanding, and solidarity. Dementia affects thousands of families across the UK, and having a visible marker in Hitchin creates a space where people can pause, share stories, and acknowledge the journey so many face.
A Community Effort
So far, significant progress has been made. Local advocates, organizations, and supporters have come together to back the idea. The bench will serve as a designated place for contemplation, conversation, and awareness, reinforcing our determination to make Hitchin, a dementia friendly town.
"This isn't just about placing a bench in a park"
"It's about creating a space where people affected by dementia—whether personally or through loved ones—can feel seen, heard, and supported. We've come so far, and now we need the community's help to cross the finish line."
How to Help
We are calling on local businesses, residents, and charitable donors to contribute to the final funding stage. Whether through direct donations, sponsorship, or fundraising events, every contribution brings this meaningful initiative one step closer to completion.
