A family from Hitchin are taking part in this year's Rainbow Run on Sunday 23 June to thank Lister Hospital for taking care of young Henry throughout his early life.

Henry was born in February 2023 and has been admitted to hospital more than ten times, with his first stay overnight at just 21-days-old.

At three months old, Henry underwent neurological investigations and was diagnosed with a benign muscle tumour and other conditions which affected his posture and head shape.

He was also diagnosed with a condition called Sandifer syndrome which causes unusual movements in the neck and back that resemble a seizure.

Henry's mum, Hannah, said: "Henry began physiotherapy sessions and with the help of his amazing therapist, Kirsty, made incredible progress. We are so grateful for the support she continues to give Henry and our family.

"Throughout all this worrying time, we have been supported by many amazing doctors, nurses and health professionals who work at Lister Hospital.

"We are doing the Rainbow Run to thank everyone who has looked after Henry. Our fundraising target is £365 to mark the progress Henry has made one year on, and which has only been possible thanks to the amazing staff at Lister. We want to help provide more support and care for children and families just like ours."

Rainbow Run is a family-friendly colour run organised by East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals' Charity to raise funds for the four hospitals it supports: Lister Hospital, Hertford County Hospital, New QEII Hospital and Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.

Beth McNeil, head of fundraising at the charity said: "Rainbow Run is a popular, fun day out and a chance to thank your hospital for the care you or your family have received. You can dedicate your run to a member of staff or department in the hospital or to a loved one.

"We hear many stories like Henry's - families that are so grateful for the care they have received and want to give back. Rainbow Run is that perfect opportunity. With 2.5k and 5k routes, it's suitable for all the family so we invite everyone to join us for this fun-packed day. Sign up here."
