The scourge of fly-tipping has returned with a vengeance in north Herts this weekend.

Nub News came across an abandoned bed and detritus on the road to Pirton, near Hitchin.

Two filthy mattresses smelling of urine were found dumped along with the base of the bed which included old trainers and other items of rubbish.

As well as being unhygienic and a possible public health issue, the selfish fly-tipping blighted an area of natural beauty, full of fields and animals including sheep, as well as horses opposite.

Nub News spoke to horrified locals at the nearby Motte and Bailey pub in Pirton.

"It's disgusting and a disgrace," a customer who wished to remain anonymous told us, adding "People who do this should be fined.

"Law abiding tax payers spend hours queuing up at local recycling centres - when anti-social opportunists can simply dump their rubbish on the roadside and expect others to clean up after them.

"It's just plain wrong - something needs to be done about this."
