Fuel crisis: Why are sky-high petrol prices so different across Hitchin

Hitchin Nub News is pulling together a special report on the shocking cost of fuel and how it's affecting hard-working residents and businesses in our town as part of the cost of living crisis.

See our website and social media channels soon for our full report feature - however, as we visited all four of our town's fuel forecourts this morning, Thursday (June 9) we noticed an extremely large - and concerning - discrepancy in the pricing of fuel, in particular the cost of petrol.

As you can see from our main picture taken on our rounds earlier, the BP garage on Bedford Road was charging an extortionate 17 pence more per litre of petrol than its counterpart on the Stevenage Road.

At the time of writing, the Bedford Road BP garage near the Priory School, was inflicting a scarcely believable price of £1.95.9 on motorists - the most expensive price per litre of petrol ever recorded in Hitchin - while its sister station fewer than two miles away, was charging £1.78.9 pence per litre of petrol.

A different of 17 (seventeen) pence, a differential so large it beggars belief.

See our special report coming soon on the fuel crisis hitting our town - and our pockets, as we speak to hard-working Hitchin people and businesses directly affected by the shocking hikes.

In the meantime, we have asked BP for comment - as well as our town's MP.
