Hitchin's version of the Repair Shop wants you!

The BBC's much-loved workshop filled with expert craftspeople, bringing loved pieces of family history and the memories they hold back to life now has an equivalent in Hitchin - and they need your help.

In a heartwarming antidote to throwaway culture, the Repair Cafe at Hackspace Hitchin is looking for volunteers to assist.

Can you sew, are you good at electrical or woodwork repairs, do you know how to fix gadgets or are you a dab hand with computers?

If so, they would love you to join their team of volunteer repairers.

Annie Sander who is community lead at Plastic Free Hitchin told Hitchin Nub News: "Every year thousands of repairable household items go to landfill because their owners don't have the time, skill or tools to repair them.

"We aim to reduce waste and save as many items from landfill as possible and we need your help. We aim to host four events a year and no pre-commitment is needed, you are free to take part according to your availability.

"Our repair cafe volunteers will be able to access a bank of tools, components and materials, plus support from Hackspace's members. Safety measures to reduce risks are in place.

"Repair Cafe at Hackspace Hitchin, in collaboration with Plastic Free Hitchin, is looking forward to bringing back this unique event during which members of the public bring their damaged items for volunteers to give them a new lease of life.."

Annie added the Repair Cafe at Hackspace Hitchin is run entirely by volunteers and is a great way to meet other members of the community, where you can use your knowledge and skills to make other people happy by repairing their much-loved items.

So why not come along and join the team.
