'There is no more welcoming, magical and inspiring place than a bookshop,' says renowned author, MG Leonard as National Bookshop Day approaches.

Bookshop Day, on Saturday [October 9], is a one-day nationwide celebration of high street bookshops including independent bookshops.

Hitchin's newest bookstore, Next Page Books is gearing up for the eagerly-awaited event.

The popular bookshop on Queen Street is offering 50 goody bags full of bookish delights for the first 50 customers through their doors on Saturday morning.

Next Page will also be hosting storytimes throughout the day.

Next Page told Hitchin Nub News: "The campaign aims to highlight the cultural importance of books and bookshops, and celebrate the people that bring the two together, our wonderful booksellers.

"To celebrate our first #bookshopday, we are sharing stories from our shop at various times throughout the day at 9.30am, 11.30am, 130pm and 3.30pm

"We also have a free [I]'Books are my Bag' tote bag for purchases of more than £25.

"We've felt so welcomed by local families so far and look forward to meeting more of you on Saturday."[.I]
