Hitchin heatwave: As record breaking temperatures of 40C hit UK St Mary's Church is the coolest place in town

As the mercury hits 40C as the extreme temperatures continue today, Tuesday (July 19), Nub News finds the coolest place in Hitchin.

With Heathrow Airport officially having the hottest temperature evert recorded in this county - 40.2C - did you know St Mary's Church is one of the coolest places in our area.

The iconic church which dates back more than 800 years is 26C in the shade - which is perfect timing for its free lunchtime concert.

Catherine Wilmers and Jill Morton will be playing various music including Beethoven - so, if you're in town, why not take restorative shelter from the heat and enjoy music in the shade.
