Holistic health practitioner Sukh Parmar helps clients deal with the strains of modern life

MAKING people feel good is an art in itself, whether it is physically, mentally or spiritually. In today's confusing and chaotic world, well-being transcends many aspects of life, all of which need to be addressed to ensure we can navigate through the intense complexity.
People are turning to new and untried solutions for their problems, some of which have guided folk for centuries. Hitchin-born Sukhwinder Parmar is one of the specialists who helps people with a broad offering of remedies and treatments that can enhance their daily lives.
These include Ayurveda Indian Head Massage, Reiki, Tai Chi Qigong and lifestyle and wellness guidance.
Sukh actually started her career in public affairs, working for India-centric agency Saffron Chase. "I had a great time with them and loved my job, but I had become increasingly drawn to holistic health and had been studying for some time. I felt this was where my future could be," recalls Sukh. "Saffron Chase and my family thought I was crazy, but I have never regretted making that decision."
In an age where slow living, mindfulness and spiritual awareness have all signalled a change in the way some people live, Sukh's lifestyle – she has been a vegan for five years - reflects an alignment of mind and body with an emphasis on self-healing.
It is clearly more than a job, it reflects her philosophy of avoiding use of chemicals, meat and anything that harms the body.
"My approach is simply if you wouldn't eat it, don't put it on your body. We absorb chemicals and toxins through the skin, but we are constantly marketed substances and products that can harm us," she says.
Sukh's clientbase is varied, across all age groups and needs.
Patients suffering from cancer, the after effects of stroke, depression and digestive issues, as well as infertility problems, have all found their way to Sukh's clinic.
She is renowned for being gentle and understanding, not to mention forthright in her interaction with her clients. "I don't turn anyone away, but I emphasise my clients have to be ready to embrace change because the remedy could be a switch in lifestyle," says Sukh.
Equally, people visit Sukh because they need a new direction. "The way we live has prompted many to search for deeper answers. They could be feeling a void and want to push boundaries. I intend to help them by looking within themselves."
It is clearly a way of life that suits Sukh. She is not only a picture of vitality, but she exudes calmness and reason. "My work is often quite humbling and it is certainly satisfying to empower people to take more control of their bodies and to aid healing. For me, it is a good space to be in right now."
Sukh Parmar is offering Hitchin Nub News readers a 10 per cent discount for their first appointment.
