There will be a two minute silence in Hitchin this morning to mark International Peace Day.

Today, Tuesday, September 21, will see a short event in the Peace Garden at Paynes Park from 1030am to 1130am.

The event is led by Hitchin Tilehouse Rotary, Inner Wheel and Hitchin Quakers, with the two minutes silence to be held at 11am.

Organisers say all are welcome.

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21.

The UN General Assembly has declared it as a day 'devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.'

Full address of the event is as follows:

Hitchin Peace Garden, Friends Meetings House

1 Paynes Park, Hitchin, SG5 1EH (opposite the top of Brand Street)
